MARION, IA — The Marion Independent School District’s School Improvement Advisory Committee recently met to review year-end data and discuss strategies for enhancing parent engagement.
Attendees included parents, administrators, and a board member, all dedicated to improving educational outcomes for MISD students. The committee reviewed student achievement data from across the district and discussed action steps and goals to increase student proficiency. After a thorough review, they formulated several recommendations aimed at improving student achievement.
SIAC members recommended setting high goals and expectations for all students, regardless of their proficiency levels, and involving them in the goal setting process. The committee emphasized the importance of schools communicating each child’s goals with their parents.
Additional recommendations included maintaining high expectations for both students and staff, facilitating smooth transitions between grade levels and buildings, and sharing effective strategies and ideas throughout the district.
“We are extremely grateful for the hard work and participation of the members of our School Improvement Advisory Committee,” said Dr. Janelle Brouwer, MISD Superintendent. “It is incredibly valuable to hear parents’ perspectives as we focus on improving student achievement. Engaging parents and the community is crucial to our collective success, and we are committed to implementing these recommendations as we continue to provide a high-quality education for all MISD students."
