Open Enrollment is the process by which a parent or guardian residing in an Iowa district may enroll their child(ren) into another Iowa school district under the terms and conditions of Iowa Code 282.18 and Iowa Administrative Code 281-17 as amended by Senate File 2435, Division VIII. Senate File 2435, Division VIII reinstates open enrollment deadlines for all student applicants and takes effect July 1, 2024.

Deadlines for the upcoming school year:
March 1, 2025 for students in grades 1-12 to enroll for the 2025-2026 school year.
September 1, 2025 for students in Kindergarten to enroll for the 2025-2026 school year.

Proof of Residency
Due at time of application is proof of residency.  Acceptable proof of residency (current dated documents within 30 days of registration or address change) that may be used to demonstrate residency in the district include:

• Purchase contract with possession date or closing date

• Most recent property tax statement

• Rental agreement or lease

• Recent mortgage statement

• Utility billing statements (water, telephone, cable service, electric, gas, etc.)

Information must clearly state the name of parent or legal guardian, address of residency and business listed on form.  Confidential information (including account numbers or balances) can be blacked out or cut from the form as long as previous items listed are clearly displayed.
