Congratulations to the 8 dance team members, juniors-Harlie Hemphill, Isobel Peterson, & Sarah Schuttloffel, sophomores-Liliana Long, Adalai Weems & Genevieve Wilkin and freshman-Katelyn Meier & Kira Siemering, who competed their solo routines at the State Qualifying Competition in Pella last Thursday. All of the soloists received Division 1 ratings which is a huge accomplishment. Only 1 other school in the Division had 100% of their soloists earn D1.
For the first time in Marion history, a dancer qualified for state! Genevieve Wilkin placed in the Top 10 in the division (out of 70+ dancers) and qualified to move on to the state-level competition in Des Moines in December!
The entire Comp team was on hand to receive the ISDTA Outstanding Academic Achievement Award for having one of the top GPAs in the state! Of the 252 teams that compete at the State competition, Marion placed in the top 11 in the state that had over a 3.9 combined GPA.

MHS Band Director Mr. Vander Wiel stopped by our Drawing/Painting class to share his portfolio of paintings and drawings with students! His presentation was a big hit! We enjoyed learning about his artistic journey.
The K-12 Art PLC team enjoyed Mr.Vaughan's mini-lesson this week. He shared his UDL Art Framework Lesson Plan and demonstrated an upcoming wire and loop-forming unit for Jewelry 1 students.
Our incredible journalism team brought home 8 awards today from the Iowa High School Press Association in Iowa City!
Mr. Rinderknecht's U.S. History class toured Brucemore and saw how the Gilded Age impacted Linn County!
Reminder that Tuesday (10/20) will be an Early Dismissal schedule at Marion High School. All other MISD buildings will remain on their normal full day schedule.

Mr. Fishell will be leading a trip during Spring Break 2028 that includes time at Pearl Harbor, the Polynesian Cultural Center as well as hiking Diamond Head! Today, Digital Photography students learned about careers in Sports Photography! Dylan Schultz, a 2020 LMHS grad and local photographer, shared his experiences and extensive portfolio. His presentation was a big hit, especially the Cubs MVP-autographed lens and META glasses.

Digital Drawing Students presented their PBIS book illustration project today to 3rd- and 4th-graders at FMI. It was a lovely time, and the HS students did a fantastic job of sharing and presenting their digital book. The Marion Way in Action!
MHS Senior Jasper Jones presented his Astrophotography process and work today to Digital Photography students in Mrs.Thilges' class. What a stellar experience for students to learn about Jasper's photography passion. Out of this world!!!
