Free Summer Meal Program

Dear Marion Community,

The Marion Independent Food Service Department is excited to be participating in a Free Summer Meal Program. The goal of this program is to try and help fill the gap for children who struggle to obtain meals during the summer months when school is not in session.

The Free Summer Meal Program is a program that allows the district to provide free meals (breakfast and lunch) to all children in the community 18 years and younger.  Families do not have to fill out any application or registration, and they do not have to qualify for free and reduced meals to participate. Children also do not have to attend school at Marion Independent to receive a meal. The only requirement to receive the free meals is that the child must be 18 years or younger.

The Free Summer Meal Program meals will be served at the Starry Elementary cafeteria located at 700 South 15th St, Marion, Iowa.

The dates of service will be June 3rd- August 16th, Monday - Friday, every day with the  exception of July 4th and July 5th. No meals will be served July 4th and July 5th.

Breakfast will be served from 8:30-9:30 am.  Lunch will be served from 11:30 am-1 pm.

The meals will be served just like they are during the school year, on trays and will need to be consumed in the cafeteria. Meals will not be a grab and go style meal, nor is that an option.

If this is something that would benefit your family, or someone you may know, please pass the information along and plan on joining us this summer!

Thank you,
Molly Pierson
