Ms. Jenni's preschool class put a bean seed in a wet paper towel, put it in the window, and journaled what it looked like. A week later they looked at the seeds, observed the changes (like roots), and journaled again. Then they planted the seeds to see what will happen next.
Nothing like a spring field trip to the Gallagher Bluedorn Theater in Cedar Falls to make your Thursday awesome! ☺️ Second graders were able to see a performance of The Stinky Cheese Man. 🧀
Our K-2 students have been working for a few weeks to earn 3,000 paw prints. We hit the goal this week, so we celebrated with a school-wide Bingo Party Friday!

First graders recently finished a unit on the History of the Earth from our new Amplify reading series. In this unit they learned about the layers of the earth, volcanoes, geysers, rocks and minerals, fossils, and dinosaurs! To finish up the unit they made a geyser using Diet Coke and Mentos! We wonder if that is how Old Faithful looks. They also made a model of the earth and its layers using Play-doh. Can you name the 4 layers of the earth? We can!

Last week in library class 2nd graders were given a variety of materials. They had to use the materials to create a tower that would withstand 15 seconds of "tornado"winds. Students did a great job and if they were not successful at first they were quick to alter their designs.
Last week in library class 1st grade students had to build a bridge with playdoh and pipe cleaners. They had to figure out how to balance a small cup and have it hold the most tiles.
Last week in library classes kindergarten students were given materials to create monsters/pets that could live on their desks. They had to name them, share what they would eat and what they would do on their desks.
Second graders have been studying a new #CKLA Knowledge unit on Insects. 🪰 Students have been studying what makes an insect an insect and have been keeping an insect journal. 🐞 Inside they’ve been creating insect diagrams and writing new information they’ve learned along with questions they still have about insects. 🐜 Here you see them using informational text to find more photos and pictures to help create their diagrams. 🐝

This is my 16th year teaching preschool and my 14th year with MISD.
My husband, Matt and I have 2 kiddos. Colt is in 3rd grade and Clara is in 2nd grade. We live in the country and have cows and chickens. We have a dog, Sophie, and a bunny, Porsha.
I enjoy being my family’s biggest cheerleader at their events, riding four wheelers, playing laser tag, and going camping. In my spare time I like to work in the garden, exercise (especially yoga & dance) and read.
Meet Mrs. Wicke
ELL Teacher (English Language Learners)
This is my 30th year in the Marion School District! I taught 1st grade at Starry Elementary for four years, 4th grade at Vernon and FMI for twenty-two years, and this is my fourth year as an ELL educator. Teaching ELL means I get to travel between all five buildings in the Marion School District to assist kids with learning English.
I’m married to Tom and we have three wonderful kids; Emily, Sam, and Claire. We have a son-in-law, Devonte, and two grand-dogs named Kobe and Kali. Our own sweet pup, named Casey, has been a part of our family for 14 years.
Tom and I love live music, traveling, being outside, riding bikes, and taking walks with Casey. I also enjoy hanging out in my flower garden and reading books!
Today is the day! Join us for the Marion Stadium Ribbon Cutting today, March 20th at 4:30pm. View the turf, the concessions, and the track! #MISDinspire #MISDOwnYourFuture
