In late September, during music class, Red Cedar music, a local music organization visited all 2nd grade students at Starry. They came to class on a Monday and Tuesday morning for a 40 minute session with each class.

Students were introduced to the groups instruments which include the violin and cello, and learned what chamber music is. They also learned about choices that composers can make when they’re writing a piece of music, and we’re able to enjoy listening to Red Cedar play.

In addition to Red Cedar’s visits to Starry, each class took a field trip to the Granger House here in Marion. Students were given a brief tour of the museum, then heard a mini concert from Red Cedar in the parlor. granger houseat granger house
Carey Bostian, one of the group’s musicians, states that, “we have always felt that the sense of history and hearing music in a place where it would have been heard originally, was a valuable lesson.”
