winter celebration

During music class since returning from Thanksgiving break, all K-2 students were preparing for the annual Winter Celebration, which typically takes place on the last day before leaving for winter break. Students worked their way through the slideshow of activities, practicing the different songs and movement pieces. Although they were certainly having fun enjoying the different tunes, students were also focusing on our regular music concepts such as beat, rhythm, matching pitch, form, and following a director.

Songs that students worked on and performed at the Winter Celebration included: Jingle Bells, Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree, Up On The Housetop, All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth, S-A-N-T-A (to the tune of BINGO), I Have A Little Dreidel, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, Deck The Halls, If It’s Winter and You Know It, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Feliz Navidad, Frosty The Snowman, The 12 Days of Christmas, Rudolph Is Coming To Town (a fun clapping activity where each grade/group has a different part), and We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Finally, one of the students’ favorite things on the Winter Celebration is getting to see their teachers’ faces popping up on several Elf Yourself videos shown throughout the sing-along.
