This year our mock trial students had the opportunity to compete using a virtual format. MHSAP had two teams competing this year at the regional level, with one team advancing to the Iowa Middle School Mock Trial State Tournament, December 1-5.
Team Flaming Hot Cheetos consisted of Sam Proctor, Michael Tice, Rosella Light, Isabella Meyer, Xavier Riedell, Aaron Quaas, Emily Hawkins, Drew Kennedy, and Cassian Smith, student coaches: Lydia Bitterman, Acacia Coates, Katy Hawkins, and Isadora Smith. They went 1:1 at the regional tournament advancing into the “play-off” round.
Team B25’s consisting of Olivia Coates, Jake Miller, Demetrius Smith, Ollie Olander, Cayden Schlee, Holly Bittterman, Sophia Greco, Nate Holmberg, and Sarah Pint, student coaches: Jeffrey Barta and Nia Boentoro, went 2:0 at the regional level, advancing them to the state tournament. At the state meet, the B25’s advanced to the quarterfinals, placing 5th in the state of Iowa.
Sarah Pint was awarded Outstanding All-State Witness and Cayden Schlee was awarded Outstanding All-State Attorney.
We are very proud of our mockers—they all represented MHSAP well!
