MHSAP families recently visited Prairie Patch Farm, located near Shueyville. It was an amazing, educational experience! Families not only got to learn about, mingle, and interact with the 10 llamas, 1 alpaca, 3 goats and 2 pigs that makes up the Prairie Patch Farm herd, but they learned about the 50 acre nature preserve and wildlife refuge that the farm calls home. The family is dedicated to conservation, prairie and forest restoration while also sharing the llamas and alpaca to educate and bring joy to countless individuals who visit the farm as well as all of those the llamas visit at schools and nursing homes in our area.
Kahle, owner of Prairie Patch Farm, shared that owning a llama was once just a dream she had as a little girl and never imagined it would bring her to where she is today. After she and her husband purchased the farm, to carry on it's legacy, she purchased a couple llamas. She and her family began dressing up the llamas and posting about them on social media and it just went from there. They were even featured in People magazine! Students learned about her small business, how her career path changed, and how she has chosen to use her "work" to bring joy and hope to people.
Families, if you didn't get to join us on this adventure, you'll have to put it on your educational "to-do" list!
Thank you Kahle for sharing your passion and joy with our students - it was an experience that will forever touch our hearts!
