This month MHSAP students and their families got to visit Cedar Rapid's very own Monarch Research Project. They learned hands-on about every stage of this amazing butterfly - from caterpillar to chrysalis. Families toured the beautiful pollinator friendly grounds of Monarch Research, searched for and found the Monarch's host plant, toured the lab, held tiny caterpillar hatchlings, discussed the OE disease affecting them and saw what it looked like under a microscope. Then, students carefully caught and tagged this summer's 4th generation Monarchs before they take the arduous journey to Mexico!
If your family didn't get to make the field trip, check out the Monarch Research Project's website for resources and information: https://monarchresearch.org/mo.... They also recommended checking out https://www.monarchwatch.org/.
