This fall, the second-grade classes have been learning about pebbles, sand, and silt in science. Using the FOSS kits from GWAEA, students learned about the earth’s natural resources like rocks, soil, and water.
Students were able to rub rocks to demonstrate weathering as well as use screens to sort rocks by size and properties.
Then students investigated the properties of pebbles, gravel, sand, silt, and clay particles. This unit is helping students to understand how quickly and slowly earth events can occur.
At the end of October, second graders will visit Devonian Fossil Gorge to observe and continue learning about rocks and other earth materials.
