Second graders have been learning about ancient civilizations including ancient Greece during their CKLA Knowledge lessons. Students learned about what kind of jobs people had in ancient Greece, how they sold and traded goods, what the terrain was like, and who some of their leaders were. They also focused a lot on the twelve Olympian Gods and Goddesses. After learning about how Greeks lived, they heard nine Greek myths.
To celebrate their hard work, students got to participate in a mini Olympic games. There were three activities that they got to ‘compete’ in. Students went on a scavenger hunt for the twelve Greek Gods and Goddesses, played a bags game, and got to do cup speed stacking like they have done in PE as well.
As another part of our celebration, students had the opportunity to enjoy a Greek feast! One main contribution from ancient Greece was the olive tree. Olive trees were very hearty and could grow easily in the rough and dry conditions of ancient Greece. For their feast, students got to try both green and black olives, olive oil, naan bread, white bread, hummus, cherry juice and Greek yogurt.
